e.l.f cosmetics

Welcome back lovelies! I know it's been a while, but I've had some time off blogging to organize my following weeks, but, I still don't think I'm completely satisfied!

Anyway, thanks to my friend who told me about e.l.f Cosmetics I decided to hop online and make a purchase and about two weeks ago my e.l.f Products came through the post and I was dead excited to try the products I had bought out. Of course, I have heard of e.l.f before, however I have never been completely bothered about the brand even though I have read some bloggers reviews.. but, this time I decided to give it a go.

There was an offer on the website to buy the contour kit with all the essentials for £16 instead of buying each of the kit individually which would have costed around £30. The Contouring Kit came with the e.l.f Studio Contour Palette, the e.l.f Studio Contouring Blush and Bronzing Cream, the e.l.f Studio Contouring Brush and the e.l.f Studio Ultimate Blending Brush. Unfortunately, the kit was meant to come with their Studio Blending Sponge, however, when I opened my packaging it wasn't in there and instead was given the Studio Stipple Brush. As there was no explanation to this, I can only assume they were out of stock and replaced it with something different. As delivery was free over £25.. I don't know if anyone else does this, but me being me had to buy more for the delivery to be free, even though delivery would have made the total still under £25... Am I just strange? Anyway, I also bought the High Definition Undereye Setting Powder and the Baked Highlighter.

My first impressions was obviously how pretty the packaging is. Okay, it's quite plain, however, I think by it being plain it gives the brand a sort of elegant look? I don't know, I'm not an expert but it totally caught my eye. I think I took about half an hour appreciating how lovely each of the products looked, then about half an hour crying at the fact the beauty sponge was missing - though, I didn't complain as I had an alternative and I could always do with an extra brush anyway. When I first started using the make-up, I guess I wasn't so sure - maybe this was because it's not extremely expensive and I wasn't sure what the outcome would be.

e.l.f Studio Contour Palette (£7.50)

As you can see, the palette is nice and compact, it's not too big and it is fairly ideal to carry around in my bag or make-up bag. When I bought this palette last month, it did originally have two different shades, but now looking on the website they only seem to have one, which is the same one as mine.. So I'm not sure what happened there. The colours don't have names, although you can tell what each is for. The top left shade is for highlighting, it is quite shimmery, but it's not over shimmery as if I was going to a school disco. If I'm honest, I use this one the most! The top right is a matte brightener which I love using under my eyes, but I wouldn't use it anywhere else. I personally only like the top half of this palette and the bottom half just isn't for me, at all. The bottom left matte contour shade is too orange for me, whether it's just my skin tone or whether I'm not into the cake-y look... I'm not sure. The bottom right matte contour is also not for me as it is too dark and when I tried it for the first time, I actually thought I looked like something from a horror film because it looked horrendous.

Despite my fall out with the bottom half of the palette, I do find myself reaching regularly for the top half of it as it has become a huge part of my make up collection. The palette is nothing compared to my Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Palette, but I wasn't expecting it to be either.

e.l.f Studio Contouring Blush and Bronzing Cream (£4.50)

I have never used a cream based blush before, nor bronzer and I'm really not sure whether I like the look or not. For me, I love the matte look on my face and not the dewy kind of look.. This product hasn't let me down really because it was something new, but I wouldn't be using this on a day to day basis. Maybe I'm doing the whole thing wrong, but I'd rather use this on a night out rather than a daily look as I feel that people may think I'm 'trying too hard'.. And we all know what that look looks like!

e.l.f Studio Contouring Brush (£7.50)

This brush isn't in the photo's - sorry. This is because I have no idea where it is and to be honest, I'm not and won't miss it. The brush and I really did not get along. I mean, don't get me wrong, it looked nice in my brush pot, but the applicant to my face really didn't look nice. It's not because of the contouring shades which certainly didn't do the brush any justice - but the brush really didn't work for me. I washed the brush and tried it with my Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Palette and the look was exactly the same - horrendous! I don't know what it is, but the shape isn't the nicest either. Hmm...

e.l.f Studio Ultimate Blending Brush (£7.50)

NOW, this came down a treat. Oh I love it. This is by far one of my favourite brushes in my collection. Now I don't look so muddy and this really does blend anything in. I'd love to rave about this product but it is so good I can't explain it! It feels so nice and soft, its's a godsend! And not to mention the lovely simple design to it!

e.l.f Studio Stipple Brush (£4.50)

This was my alternative, unexpected product. I already have the Real Techniques Stipple Brush, but I'm glad to have a back up, just in case. This actually came in handy when I left my make up bag in my friends car the other day and all my current make up and brushes were abandoned by me.. yikes. So, I am extremely grateful that I had this at my beck and call that day. It's actually quite soft and it didn't let me down! Again, the design is the same and I love it!

e.l.f High Definition Undereye Setting Powder (£4.50)

I have really been loving this new addition. I have never tried an under eye setting powder before and now I use it every day! For me it stops my make up from going in the creases under my eyes and it makes me feel better about myself all day because I know I don't need to reapply. The powder is really thin and a small amount does go a long way. It came with a little brush as well which was really cute - because I like small things.

e.l.f Baked Highlighter (£4.50)

I got this in the shade Moonlight Pearls. I love love love this and it is definitely my favourite item out of the whole purchase. It's a little bit glittery but it's a nice glittery and it gives me a really nice and flattering glow. It is extremely easy to apply and it just looks so so pretty!

As with every make up or any product purchase there is a 50/50 chance that you're going to actually like it. There are some things in my purchase which I really disliked, but I do love the things I actually liked from it. Personally, e.l.f is a really good brand for how cheap they sell their products and I would definitely buy again.

What's your opinion on e.l.f Cosmetics, or do you have any of the same products as me? Let me know in the comments!

Also, just a quick question. I am thinking of possibly changing the name of my blog, I have a few ideas so far, but I would appreciate it if you just looked and voted one in the poll!

Thank you.

  4. I used to use Elf quite a lot but since they relaunched the site I'm sure everything is more expensive! I have the stippling brush too and I think it's great, I really want that blending brush now! I've been looking for one that's a decent price. And that highlighter does look gorgeous.
