So, I'm back and I'm back bringing something new and fresh to my blog. I have always been keen on baking since growing up, as I was always baking anything I/we could think of with my gran when I was younger and it is something which is quite close to my heart as I feel like it was something we could bond over.
Anyway, since one of my favorite bloggers/vloggers/youtubers brought out a wonderful baking book (
which I obviously pre-ordered and arrived on the day it came out), I have decided to do my own baking series with recipes from Tanya Bakes! Tanya Burr has always inspired me with everything she does, so now I guess I'm giving back to her! The series won't be every week but I will try and bake and blog about it as often as possible. This series is where I share with you the process I had to go through to make and bake the recipes in the book and my opinions on them too.
For my first post on 'Baking With Tanya Bakes' I decided to give the Mary Berry's Chocolate Fork Biscuits a go!

As you can clearly see, the ingredients in this recipe are quite simple and there are not many at all actually. I used; unsalted butter, golden caster sugar, self raising flour, cocoa powder. Also the equipment I used to make the biscuits included greaseproof paper, a mixing bowl, a whisk, a weighing scale, cups/bowls, a fork, a baking tray and obviously an oven. I would usually use a mixer, however mine sadly broke and I haven't got round to buying another one yet!
First things first I measured all my ingredients:
My weighing scale is actually quite old and old fashioned - so next time I'll spare you the grubby picture of it, until I buy a new one!
I then put the sugar and the butter in the mixing bowl and starting whisking away.. Little did I know how hard you had to work to get the end result - I think I now have one very muscly arm ha!
Then, I added in the cocoa powder and the flour bit by bit until it was like a dough texture.
Then, it was time to make the balls and transfer them onto the tray (which I had greaseproofed) and then with a fork press down lightly to flatten.
Some were obviously bigger than the rest, so maybe I did go a bit overboard with some... BUT I didn't care. I then put them in the oven and waited for what seemed a very long time.. tick tock.
Finally, it was time to take them out and I was so so excited! This was the end result!
Don't they look delicious! Maybe they don't look like Tan's lovely ones in her book, but I was quite proud of myself! But, unfortunately I didn't like them. My mother liked them, so I guess they were not my cup of tea. Oh well! There's always next time right???

DeleteWell done! If you want to do more baking I'd consider investing in a set of digital scales. They're smaller so they don't take up much space in the cupboard and they're a lot more accurate. Happy future baking!

DeleteI'm well impressed you actually hand mixed these! With biscuits & cookies I always chuck them in the electric mixer; the armflab isn't quite strong enough to do it by hand!

DeleteI've always wanted to try Mary Berry's recipes as I'm a big fan of bake-off. These chocolate biscuits look great :) Never heard of a fork biscuit before!
