Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation - Review

04/02/2016

I am sooooo excited to review this product as the Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation (I use 3W1 Tawny) was my top item on my wish list and thanks to my boyfriend who bought it for my birthday, I can finally tick it off!

After reading reviews and watching first impressions of the foundation for months, I finally came to the conclusion that this is a must have to my makeup collection. I was ecstatic when my boyfriend said he'd buy it for me. Unfortunately for me he kept it in plain sight in his bedroom for almost a week and he kept tempting me to open and use it. However, I stuck to my ground and said no. Then on my birthday I bounced to it and used it and I have to say I was really impressed.

When I was watching videos I thought the formula was thick, even though most reviews said it wasn't, it still looked it. The formula is actually very liquid-y and light which is really good because it's not hard to spread around your face and blend. It definitely is full coverage. Well, I suppose if you use a very small amount it won't cover as much as some people may want it to, but it is definitely build-able and it doesn't take much at all to cover up blemishes. I think the foundation does go a long way as, like I said, you don't need to use a lot and because it lasts all day (for me) so I never really need to 'touch up' when I'm using this foundation.

Some reviews said that using a primer before applying the foundation makes the look bad after applying it. Then others said it worked for them. So, I decided to try it out for myself, using my Rimmel Stay Matte Primer as a base first and only using the foundation as a base. To be honest, there is no real difference, apart from the fact I think the foundation actually lasts longer without the primer. I don't know whether this is because of the primer I am using, or whether it's because there could be something like a primer in the foundation ingredients that doesn't get along with my primer or my other primer. Now I choose not to wear primer with this foundation as I feel too cakey.

Obviously, as I use this foundation as my base, I don't find that I need to use concealer to cover my blemishes. Maybe if I have a really, really bad pimple or spot I'll need to conceal it just to give it that extra coverage. However, I do use concealer just to brighten up under my eyes and my T-Zone where the light hits.. and wherever else I want to stick it. I use the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer in Ivory and when I used this under my eyes with this foundation I just fell in love all over again. I really think this is a miracle foundation as it works wonders.

The only downside to the foundation is really that it gets quite oily after wearing it for a long time. Because of this I either take around blotting tissues or if I have time I powder my face. Also, because it's a very full coverage foundation, it can be hard to get off with just a makeup wipe. However I stick to my usual routine anyway which you can find here.

Overall, this foundation is brilliant. When I first got it I swore that I would only use it when I go out on nights out or on occasions.... I've already broken my rules. I think it's because I was extremely happy to have it and because it's worked so well I just really love it. I'll be crying when it's empty and sticking ends of old brushes into the bottom trying to scrape it out.

Do you have this product? What do you think?

  2. I've never tried this, but Estee Lauder seems to be really great for higher end makeup. That's impressive that you waited till your actual birthday, I think I would've used it before!

  3. Lovely review. I've tried a sample of the Estée Lauder and I didn't really like it. I've got dry skin so I always prime my face, maybe that could of been the reason why it didn't sit so well on my face lol. I'm glad you liked it though. Nothing better than finding a great foundation :)
