My Skin Care Routine

05/03/2016

As some of my earlier readers would know, I have already written a post on my skin care routine called How to Beat Bad Skin and Stay Clear! As I had mentioned in my last post, I tend to change my skin care routine a lot and this changes particularly when I have a strange and very dehumanizing break out. If you're like me then you know when a spot appears you freak out - a lot! I envy the people with good skin and if you are one of those people then HOW DO YOU DO IT?

As I had so many facial wipe packs for Christmas, I have tried mostly all of them out. Because everyone who bought them for me knows me so well, they are all Simple and you all know I love Simple. Anyway so what I have really loved using is the Micellar Cleansing Wipes. Apparently with micellar technology, the wipes gently cleanses, unclogs pores and instantly hydrates. I'm not 100% that they unclog my pores, but they do level out my breakouts.
Another product I have been using lately is the Witch Blemish Stick, which I have already written about and you can read the review here
I am still using the Simple Vital Vitamin Foaming Cleanser and I don't think I'll ever completely vanish it from my skin care routine as it really is that good!
I have recently started using the St. Ives Blemish Fighting Apricot Scrub and I think it is amazing and it smells so nice!
Also I have been using the Nivea Pure & Natural Regenerating Night Cream. This product just makes my skin so soft and I don't think I could live without it!
I have recently gone back to using the Simple Hydrating Light Moisturizer... yikes! This is only because I had about ten for Christmas and I feel bad for not using them up, even though my skin hates this moisturizer..oops don't do this.

With that said lets move on to my actual skin care routine!

Morning Routine
  • I wash my face with cold water.
  • If my face doesn't feel all that clean, I'll open my pores by splashing warm-ish water onto my face and then wash my face with the cleanser. I always wash again after with cold water so that my pores are closed.
  • I then moisturize my face with the horrible moisturizer (don't do this, make sure you use one that is good for your skin... and remind people all the time that the moisturizer is bad bad bad..).
  • I sometimes use the Rimmel Stay Matte Primer, but only if I have a long day ahead or if I am doing a lot in the day or even going out on a special occasion or in the night. I don't recommend using a primer every day as it can clog your pores up and sometimes it's not even worth using.
  • Then I apply all my make-up and I might powder it if I feel like it.

Evening Routine

  • I usually take my make up off quite late at around 10 because I have too much to do or because I forget to take it off until I sleep.
  • First I use the wipes and I make sure I get all of the visible make up off.
  • I then wash my face in warm-ish water and cleanse my face.
  • Every Sunday I use the scrub to exfoliate my skin - I don't do this everyday as you'll often find that instead of rubbing away the dead skin and all the crap in your skin, you'll be rubbing away the good skin which can cause all sort of problems. If my skin is really bad I ten to use the scrub twice a week but leaving days between, so Sunday and Wednesday.
  • I always close my pores after washing by using cold water.
  • After this I might tone my skin if I have a really bad break out. I rarely do this, maybe once a month.
  • I then rub wait until I actually want to go to sleep so my skin has time to breathe.
  • Before I sleep I will rub the night cream in until it has soaked in and then I'll rub the witch stick over my face (usually where my spots or blemishes are).

I used to have 'skin free' days, which means I don't put anything on my face which can harm it - for example, make up. I usually did it on Sundays when I had nothing to do, but now I work on Saturday and Sunday and I'm in college all week so I haven't got any time to let my skin breathe. I do use a face mask every two weeks as a treat and once a month or every two months I will lean my face (about 5cm away) over a very hot bowl of water fresh from the boiling kettle. I steam my face so that it sweats all the horrible stuff out and I moisturize after it and close my pores. I know I said in my last post about my skin care routine that throwing out all the products that say they actually help - but I couldn't resist!

What's your skin care routine? Do you do anything the same as me?

  1. I am a big fan of Nivea - their micellar water is brilliant for sensitive skin. As I get older I try to use a foundation of moisturiser with SPF in it too

  3. St. Ives is one of my favorite brands for face scrubs - I use their apricot one for acne every night. I'm also a huge fan of the Simple Micellar water! I've been sworn off makeup wipes once I discovered cleansing waters.

    Awesome post!

  7. This is a very similar skin care routine to mine, but I don't use facial wipes because they have bad chemicals that can cause redness and irritation. I don't know what kind of skin type you have but I recommend to not use makeup wipes because they contain a lot of alcohol and bad ingredients. Even if they say its 100% natural, It isn't always true. I got recommended to stop using them by a specialist and my skin have never been better. Just a friendly tip! Great post x
