How To Instantly Improve Bad Skin

15/08/2016

We are no strangers to bad skin days and if you are then what are you not telling me?! I have always been the kind to skip school if I had a bad skin day, even if it was only one bad spot. When I was at school, if I even as much as saw a pimple on my face I would try covering it with my hands in lessons or just not look at anyone and keep my head down. Although, I have to admit I have never had extremely bad skin and I've only had spots and few blackheads, so I can't say I have suffered from acne. Nevertheless, my skin is extremely sensitive and I really do need to be careful what I put on it as my face easily dries up, becomes irritated and my eyes - well that's another story!

So whether you have sensitive skin, acne or even just a few spots you want to clear up, the following may help you reduce the appearance of bad skin. Although, I know that probably everyone with acne has tried almost everything to make their skin clear and not everything works for everyone.

If I ever have bad skin, I make sure I have a few hours to make my skin calm down before I do anything - unless I have work or college.. then I'll have to suffer. To start making my skin cleaner I take my Bravura First Cleanse Oil cleanser and wash my face with warm water. I then steam my face. I do this by boiling the kettle and pouring the hot water into a bowl, then I hover my face with a towel over both my head above the bowl, about 5cm or more from it. * Please be careful and if you are the clumsy type like me then don't move the bowl just leave it where you poured the hot water! I stay there for at least 10-15 minutes and then I dry my face. I only recommend steaming your face once a week as it can dry your skin up.

I then take a face mask, such as the L'oreal Pure Clay Detox Mask that I've been really loving and leave it on for the recommended time. I then wash the mask of with warm water and then use an exfoliating scrub. I will then wash my face with cold water to just close the pores and I will also use the Bravura Revitalising Ginseng toner. I then use my Exuviance Essential Daily Defense creme/moisturizer, which may I add has been a life saver since I had it! Or if I do this in the evening I will use the No7 Lift and Luminate Night Cream.

I usually find that doing this whole routine at least twice a week will make my skin appear so much smoother and brighter. Also I do see that pimples have reduced in redness and size and after using a mask a lot of my blackheads tend to disappear. However, if I'm completely unsatisfied I will tend to use some Sudocrem on my spots to reduce redness. Or, if I have dry skin I will put some Vaseline on the dry patch.

Having a mini pamper at home will really do your skin good. So, if you feel like your skin is lacking something, why not cut a cucumber, throw two slices on your eyes and give this routine a go twice a week? It's worth a try!

If you don't have those few hours to calm your face down, I recommend you slap on a face mask as you're having a shower, or put one on whilst doing your hair (even if your getting ready routine will end up back to front!). I would also then recommend using a spot fighting moisturizer or something anti-bacterial before putting make up on and then put some concealer on before your foundation. However, if you don't usually wear make up, I would highly suggest investing in a concealer, such as the three I mentioned in my 3 Drugstore Concealers I Can't Live Without post.

It is also important you drink plenty of water, even if you don't like it. We bath in water, we cook with water, we shower with water, we brush our teeth with water, we wash with water - you get the point, a lot of things we have to do includes water. So why not clean our insides and get all the horrible bad stuff out with water? ALSO, please please please don't touch your face. Think of what you have handled throughout the day! Things such as money, shopping baskets/trolleys, hand rails have all been touched by people you don't know, so that means you don't know where their hands have been! So, this goes without saying, wash your hands regularly!

For long term effects you could also talk to your GP about the options you have medically. You can read my post on the combined pill here if you'd like to research further!

How do you deal with bad skin? Let me know in the comments, I would love to know!
